Rome: Republic or Empire?

Here you have a link to a very interesting video with a different point of view about the Roman organization.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPf27gAup9U

Make sure you watch it, and answer: who created the Empire? How long has Rome been an empire?

Rome

Rome was an empire before being an empire. That is to say , its organization and administration was the same before even Julius Ceasar and Agustus. The empire lasted for 200 years and it was the greatest of all times.

Rome: republic to empire

Rome was a republic in the ancient rome civilization. It became in an empire when Octavian reformed the republic as principate, with him as first emperor, since then rome was known as an empire. The power of the emperor was monarchic in all but name and he held them for his lifetime, on behalf of the Senate and people of rome.

ROME WAS AN EMPIRE

The video was very interesting, and according to it, Rome was an empire before it had an emperor. In the video the man says that epires create emperors and that was the case of Rome. Before having an emperor Rome had features of an empire such as the military expansion, government shared by all the territory under a single leader and the subject people. Rome was an empire by 201 bce, that is to say, 200 years before Agustus created and became the emperor of Rome.

Rome: Republic or Empire?

Rome became an Empire before it had an emperor. It had some imperial features such as unified system of government; continue military expansion and diversity of subject people. Monarchy, Aristocracy and Democracy were all find united in Rome before Julius Caesar arrived at the power. Returning from Egypt, he was declared dictator, and took strong measures to restabilize Rome. After the second Punic war, by 201 BCE Rome was already an Empire. Until August became the emperor of Rome it had been an Empire for 200 years.

Empire

ACCORDING TO THE VIDEO, ROME WAS CONSIDERED AS AN EMPIRE FOR TWO HUNDRED YEARS, THAT IS TO SAY, IT WAS AN EMPIRE EVEN BEFORE JULIUS CAESAR COME INTO POWER. IT WAS AN EMPIRE DUE TO THE UNIFIED SYTEM OF GOVERNMENT THEY HAD AND WHAT IS MORE IT HAD ALWAYS BEEN IN THE HANDS OF MILITARY ARMY BECAUSE OF THEIR DESIRE TO EXPAND THEIR TERRITORIES,

Republic or empire?

After watching the video (which was awesome) I think that although rome started being a republic then an empire, it was already an empire before having an emperor. Because even before Caesar Roma had characteristic of an empire, for example a system of government, continuous military expansions, etc. So, the idea of Rome being an empire only when an emperor or \"dictator\" is governing is a lie. It is said that Rome made Caesar and all its emperor. That is to say, by that time  Rome had been an empire for 200 years.

THe Roman Empire

In the mid II BCE, Rome was one of the powerful civilizations of the Mediterranean. His political expansionist interests collided with Carthage and Macedonia. After three wars against the Carthaginians and the conquest of the Hellenistic’s kingdom, Roma became the only power in the Mediterranean.
Julius Caesar's campaigns in Gaul and the annexation of Egypt conducted by Octavian after defeating Cleopatra and Mark Antony (31 BCE) made Rome owner of a huge area around the Mediterranean. The empire founded by Augustus (Octavian) seems to have last about 200 years.

Rome

From the video we can say that Rome was more an Empire than a Republic and that it was not founded by Julius Caesar because it became an Empire before him taking charge of Rome due to its system of organization.
